Rilke’s River

I believe in all that has never yet been spoken.
I want to free what waits within me
so that what no one has dared to wish for

may for once spring clear
without my contriving.

If this is arrogant, God, forgive me,
but this is what I need to say.
May what I do flow from me like a river,
no forcing and no holding back,
the way it is with children.

Then in these swelling and ebbing currents,
these deepening tides moving out, returning,
I will sing you as no one ever has,

streaming through widening channels
into the open sea.

Rainer Maria Rilke – Book of Hours, Love Poems to God (pg, 58)

Emphasis mine, of course.

I live... for love... for truth that liberates... for growth... for beauty... for intelligent, soulful connection and so much else.

  1. I celebrate myself, and sing myself,
And what I assume you shall assume,
For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.

    1. I love it. Walt Whitman was on my mind the other day and here you’ve graced me with his words. And, naturally, I love that it’s singing…
      Thank you…
